REVISED VERSION OF TANGO

Tango is my favorite dance and I want to share some things about it.Actually I do not know how to tango because there has been no opportunity to learn it so far.Probably in the future I could be a good tangoist:) and you can come to see me..

     Tango is a Latin dance that was originated in Buenos-Aires, Argentine. Although it seems like an upper-class dance,actually it emerged in lower-class of Argentine. At the beginning it was played in the streets of the city among the African immigrants.However, it attracted the attention of upper-class people in a short time and then started to spread all over the Europe by some travelers.

        There are some basic characteristics of tango such as.lead and follow, body contact,feelings,its story..etc.These are the indispensable parts of Tango. Every tango dance has its own story and while watching the dance you can hear or live this story at the same time. Music is also one of the most important things in tango. It must be suitable for the story which will be expressed during the dance.

         There are so many types of tango, but I would like the three of them.The first style is Argentine tango.It is the original form of tango which belongs to Buenos-Aires. It is more improvisional in comparison to other styles. The feelings and romanticism can be seen clearly while watching the dance.The second one is American tango that emerged in America. It is less romantic but, there are also feelings in the American tango.It is a semi-closed positional dance.The third type is The International tango. There is no feeling in it and it is a choreographed dance that means studied before the show.Thus,if one of the dancer forgets her/her routine it is really difficult to compensate. It is usually used in International Tango Competitions.

          Many thing can be said about it,but I want to share with you a quotation by Miguel Zotto ;

           Tango is improvised. It is improvised all the way. There are no combinations. In tango you can’t be preoccupied with steps. You need to express your feelings while listening to the music.

                                            

SECOND TERM-SECOND ARTICLE REFLECTION

        I want to write about the article called 'At Home with Mamma'. It attracts my attention at first glance because generally I prefer reading and writing about social topics in comparison to others.  For this reason, I read this article with a great pleasure an decided to write about it.
        Firstly, I would like to talk about its content. It tells about the fact that young Italian men is staying with their family for their mother's service for them. I like the way the writer compose his article because he supports his writing with a useful example, Gianluca VINTI, and by giving some statistics and facts according to The Italian National Statistics Institute. He also talks about the reasons underlying this situation.I think the first reason why these people prefer to live with their mothers is economical. There is an established order at home. Their lives are regulated by their parents, and even if they start to earn their own money, they cannot leave this order because creating a new life and environment costs them too much . The second reason is becuase of mothers.They meet all their children's needs. They are tidying their rooms every day, washing and ironing their cloths and even bringing them water. The example in the article is summarizing every thing. Mothers do not prepare their children for living alone and they have great pleasure by doing that. They say that they are happy while serving their children all the time.All these things force young men unwittingly to live with their family until they are married even if their ages are in thirties.
        I think this situation may turn into a problem because every person, no matter men or women, can overcome his/her life without his/her mother. Actually, this is a rule to become an adult. If you cannot manage living on your own, many challenges are waiting for you in your further steps. Especially, after they marry with a woman, they may face many problems with their wifes and their relationship may be impaired because of these men's habits.

SECOND TERM- 4-UNKNOWN SIDES OF TELEVISION

 Television, abbreviated to TV, is a widely used communication system for broadcasting or receiving moving pictures and sound over a distance. It is one of the most indispensable parts of human life. Some people even regard it as a member of their family. Although it is an invention and made by human, why do people think that television is something excellent? According to TİK( Türkiye İstatistik Kurumu), average time that people have spent watching TV is 5.11 hours in United States and is 4.5 hours in Turkey. Everyone enjoys watching TV channels, because they can obtain new things or just entertain by watching them. Therefore, television is an advantageous tool because of its educational, funny and informative elements.

First of all, TV includes many programs from which people can learn plenty of information. It provides many opportunities like history and science channels for people. For example, a program broadcasted in a history channel may attract the interest of a student more than his/her history lecture, so the facts obtained from here are more lasting for the students. Additionally, there are many cartoons and animation films for children. These programs show many of visuals and the contents of these cartoons are mainly designed for teaching basic knowledge of life to children. For example, Peppe and Calliou are cartoons which give examples of social rules to children. As the time passes, children become more aware of their around. They start to think, examine and understand things, and this improves their intelligence to a great extent.

Secondly, TV entertains people with movies, series and shows. Actually, it enables to have fun by gathering whole family together most of the time. In other words it is a way of entertaining. People invite their relatives, select a good movie and spend their time by doing such a great activity. They can share many things thanks to television. Also, TV has some sport channels and people can follow their favorite matches, teams or sports in these channels. A few of people can go matches and watch it in the same time. The rest use their TV channels for this purpose and this makes TV more important for them.

Finally, people can get more information about what is happening in all over the world. It is not possible to visit every country and learn their culture its own place. However, TV gives people chance to see almost every beauty of the world. Different types of cultures, languages and life styles are represented by some TV channels like National Geographic. Each of TV series is also a source to learn different cultures because they reflect the society where they take place. Besides, all of the events in the world are announced by TV and people can be informed about the news in both their own country and the others even in a few hours. They can also guess the weather by watching whether forecasts and they make their plans according to weather

On the whole, as a tool for learning, entertaining and getting information TV is beneficial for society. People can learn some useful, scientific or social information by watching TV. They can also make fun thanks to movies, series or shows in TV. Finally, TV informs people about news and weather forecasts about all over the world. When thinking all of these services, it is unfair to say that TV is a harmful thing.

Second Term-First Article Reflection

PAPA, THE PHILOSOPHER

        This article ,'Papa, The Philosopher' ,is really an effective one to show how important our parents are in both our social and psychological lives. I guessed that this article would make me bored when I read its name and saw 'the philosopher' at the first view.However, when I glanced its content I realized that it was about a meaningful story.

        It tells about a boy who lives in California with his family, but his origin is Italian.When he is a little child he is not aware of the things that they face with.As the time passes, he starts to understand the discrimination turning around him and his family.One day, he is attached by some American boys.He fells really sorry and humiliated being an Italian boy.The main message shows up when his father talks with him about this circumstance.He tries to say that he should not be ashamed of being an Italian.In addition to this, instead of reacting their nasty behaviors, he recommends his son to invite these boys to home in order to show that there is no difference between them.

        I cannot say that I can totally understand these types of people who must cope with these challenges only because of their national properties.The only thing that I can do is to put myself into their position.It is really a difficult problem because you must be strong to show that you have or lack nothing different from others.You can do this  with the support of your family even if your age is not enough for this like the example in the article.

       Finally, I want to mention the structure and content of the article.The writer uses a fluent language.The article is divided into many paragraphs and the reader do not get bored while reading it.The story is absorbing and I read it with a great pleasure:)

SECOND TERM 2-DESIRE TO BE SELF-GOVERNING-

I want to talk about parent-adolescent collision which is a controversial issue .How many adolescents do not want to make his/her decisions on his/her own?  I am sure most of you tell me that none of them because you know it is a wish for our adolescents to be able to make things freely. Actually, it is our nature to want this, but the process in which we move from the adolescence to adulthood has some challenges that require being dealt with .

On the basis of my experiences, in this process so many conflicts come into existence automatically between the adolescents and their parents. Most of the parents, who have their children’s responsibility up to this process, want them to keep their advice and live however they like. For example, an adolescent has to arrive at home in the hours acceptable for his/her parents. These words probably must be said by a parent, but in the adolescents’ aspect these hours can be inconvenient.

To be honest, I am sure my mother and my father sometimes feel like an ordinary parent. I can understand them and they can understand me. However, not all of the adolescents and the parents have an ability to understand each other .I think, to overcome these challenging times there is just one thing to be done : EMPATHY..An adolescent must think what if he/she had a child? How would he/she act? Similarly, the parents must think their youth age. They cannot tell their children that I had never such problems like you. Another important thing during this process is attachment to parents. The more adolescents feel their parents on their sides, the more powerful they are against difficulties faced with in their future times.

As a result, if anyone knows their duties and responsibilities, this is not an insoluble problem.

SECOND TERM 1-CULTURE SHOCK-

                                        

           All of the people live in a social environment. The more they stay here and share some things with others the more they are accustomed to this environment. Objects and people which they see every day are familiar to them without being aware of. However, it is impossible to stay in the same place for our whole life. Our environment, of course, changes or gets new shapes with the differences. This change could stem from so many reason such as; education, business, etc..
          When people join a new culture, they have some troubles unfortunately. They see unfamiliar objects, people or places any more. They have difficulty in passing their time because in the beginning they do not know where they go or with whom they spend their time. Everything they observe is strange for them and they have to adjust all things in their lives to this new environment. For example, I met a girl who had just moved to Turkey from Germany in my last year of high school. She was always crying and saying that she was missing her friends and previous school. She was finding our culture strange and she had difficulty in adapting herself to this new culture. I am sure if I were in her situation I would experience same troubles.
          People in a new culture most probably feel depressed, isolated and alone. They become homesick and do not want to do anything. They are always curious about how they will get used to live there. These feelings are very natural, but as the time passes the case starts to change for most of those people. They meet new people who were unfamiliar to them before. They learn the language of the culture in which they are living and start to feel more comfortable. They discover that there are a lot to do in this country such as, going new cafes or restaurants, touristic trips. Maybe they start to love this environment more than the previous one. However the situation may come to an unsatisfactory state. It is a really serious problem for a human psychology, and the person who faces with this kind of problem should be patient and consult a physician.
          Consequently, there is no person who has never experienced adjustment problem, but the time and patience can solve all these challenges.
